Job summary

Wigan & Leigh College is seeking a Carpentry and Joinery lecturer in the Construction department. The role is permanent and involves teaching practical sessions and classroom delivery to Level 2 and 3 students, plus assessment and progression support across college sites.

Entry requires a degree or vocational carpentry qualification, GCSE English/Maths, and a willingness to obtain a teaching qualification. An enhanced DBS check is required, with travel across sites expected.

Qualifications

• Degree or vocational qualification in carpentry or joinery.
• GCSE English and Maths at grade C or equivalent, obtainable during probation.
• Teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver carpentry and joinery sessions for Level 2/3 learners.
• Assess progress against standards; provide feedback.
• Mark work and guide improvement.
• Use results to shape lessons and tracking progress.
• Keep accurate records of progress and administration.
• Fulfill personal tutoring duties and pastoral support.
• Monitor attendance and promote positive behaviour.
• Support induction and help students plan next steps.
• Coordinate courses; contribute to dept initiatives.
• Participate in open evenings and school liaison.
• Stay updated with subject developments and best practice.
