South Hams District Council's Property Services team have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Carpenter/Woodworking operative. As a true team player, the successful candidate will have gained their knowledge and experience from working on a variety of different projects within the building industry.
As a local authority, we believe passionately about delivering quality council services and we need great operatives to support us in our ambitions. We are seeking someone who would primarily assist our maintenance teams and other trades with repairs and fittings. From kitchens to doorframes, fencing to any other woodwork that we repair and update through our planned maintenance schedule of works. You will join a team of highly qualified and experienced operatives (Electricians, Plumbers, multi-skilled building tradespeople) and be supported by administrative and managerial staff.
Primarily required as a carpenter, we’re looking for someone who displays a positive attitude, someone who is willing to learn new skills, and is willing to turn their hands to most aspects of the building trade. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in carpentry, proficiency with tools, and the ability to deliver high-quality workmanship within set timeframes.
The successful candidate will be welcomed into a team that maintains the Council's property and assets. Varied and wide-ranging, challenging and engaging, the work you will undertake will include day-to-day reactive repairs and planned maintenance across our picturesque districts. You will be expected to maintain a commitment to safety, accuracy, and excellence in all tasks. Either working alone under your own initiative or as an important part of a larger team on project work, we ask that applicants have a flexible approach to their workday to meet the demands of the role.
A driving licence is essential as you will be working in both South Hams and West Devon, and in return, we will provide you with a vehicle, tools and equipment, uniform and training as standard, and a Monday to Friday working week.
