Job summary

We are seeking a skilled Carpenter to join Mears Group PLC in Birmingham, focusing on refurbishing empty social housing properties for new tenants. This full-time permanent role offers 42.5 hours per week, with a company van and fuel card, and an annual salary up to £37,000.

Responsibilities include first and second fix carpentry, door installations, skirting, flooring and liaising with other trades to meet lettable standards. Health and safety compliance is essential.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Carpenter within domestic maintenance, refurbishment or void property works.
• Experience completing first and second fix carpentry works to a high standard.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Ability to work independently and manage workloads to achieve void turnaround targets.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Good knowledge of property refurbishment and lettable standards.
• Understanding of health and safety regulations and safe working practices.
• Ability to use handheld devices or job management systems to record completed works.
• Flexible approach with the ability to work collaboratively alongside other trades.
• Commitment to delivering high standards of workmanship and customer service.

• Replace and repair internal doors, frames, architraves, locks, hinges and ironmongery
• Fit kitchens including units, worktops, pelmets and end panels
• Install and replace skirting boards, boxing-in, shelving and other joinery items
• Repair or replace timber flooring, stair components, handrails and banisters
• Complete first and second fix carpentry works as part of property refurbishments
• Make good following maintenance and refurbishment works, including minor patch repairs where required
• Work alongside other trades to ensure properties meet lettable standards
• Identify and rectify defects to improve the condition and presentation of void properties
• Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and in line with health and safety regulations
• Accurately record completed works, materials used and property updates using handheld devices or job management systems
• Identify and report any additional repairs or property defects requiring attention
• Support the achievement of void turnaround and property handover targets
• Maintain tools, equipment and company vehicle in good working order
• Adhere to all company policies, procedures and health and safety requirements
• Deliver high-quality workmanship with a strong focus on right-first-time repairs and refurbishments

About The Role

Annual salary: up to £37,000.00

Role Responsibilities
