Job summary

The Emerald Group in Leeds is seeking a Cargo Underwriter to join our team on a full-time basis, based in our Leeds office and reporting into the Underwriter & Team Leader.

You will handle end-to-end underwriting for the allocated portfolio, build strong relationships with intermediaries, and contribute to profitable trading growth while meeting customer service targets.

This role requires a high level of underwriting knowledge and a solid understanding of our trading philosophy and local market.

Responsibilities

• End-to-end handling for the allocated portfolio in line with trading strategy.
• Make effective decisions within delegated authority for intermediaries.
• Develop strong relationships with intermediaries to deliver growth.
• Plan and process work to meet customer service targets including credit control.
• Apply underwriting knowledge to support trading objectives.
• Understand and apply management information for decision making.
• Maintain knowledge of the local market for accurate assessments.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external contacts within intermediaries and customers.

They are currently looking for a Cargo Underwriter to be based in their Leeds office on a full-time basis, reporting into the Underwriter & Team Leader.

• Type: Permanent

Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

• Undertaking end-to-end handling for the allocated portfolio to deliver the agreed joint business development plans in line with the Company’s overall trading strategy
• Make effective decisions, within delegated authority, for allocated intermediaries so that work is completed efficiently
• Working with the underwriting team, develop strong relationships with allocated intermediaries, balancing intermediary needs with the Company’s trading objective in a way that will deliver profitable and balanced trading growth
• Plan and process own work in a way that will assist the team to meet its customer service targets including credit control targets
• High level of underwriting knowledge
• Understanding of technical underwriting, philosophy and Company trading strategy
• Ability to interpret and effectively use management information
• Knowledge of the local market
• Internal relationships with Line of Business Managers, team members, Underwriters, the Claims Department and the Syndicate
• External relationships with a range of contacts within the allocated intermediaries and customers
