Job summary

Pinnacle Group Limited is seeking a proactive Caretaker to join our facilities team supporting three school sites in Slough. You will safeguard buildings and grounds, perform routine maintenance, and assist with security and event setup, ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for pupils and staff.

The role is full-time, Monday to Friday, on-site with shifts 06:30–14:30 or 10:30–18:30 and requires a DBS check.

Qualifications

  • Experience in caretaker, facilities, maintenance or building services roles.
  • Practical maintenance skills including general DIY, plumbing, carpentry, or basic electrical works.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills; approachable and professional.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and respond effectively to maintenance issues.
  • Flexible and proactive approach with willingness to learn and undertake training.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the security of school buildings and grounds through locking, unlocking, patrols and monitoring site access.
  • Carry out routine caretaking and maintenance duties including litter picking, cleaning, minor repairs and decoration works.
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance tasks according to site schedules.
  • Investigate reactive maintenance requests and carry out temporary or permanent repairs.
  • Support contractors and service providers on site and liaise as required.
  • Respond to emergencies including floods, spillages and other facilities-related incidents.
  • Set up rooms and events in line with operational requirements.
  • Undertake routine inspections of facilities, plant rooms, drains, boilers and site assets.
  • Monitor site presentation and identify defects or maintenance needs.
  • Support school lettings and out-of-hours access arrangements.

Pinnacle Group are looking for a Caretaker to join our Total Facilities Management team, supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of a school environment. You will be responsible for ensuring the school buildings and grounds remain safe, secure, compliant, and well-maintained, carrying out a range of caretaking, maintenance, security and repair duties. This is a hands-on role that requires a proactive approach, strong practical skills, and a commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.

Our Total Facilities Management team delivers integrated asset management and maintenance services across education, leisure, corporate, health and residential sectors. We focus on keeping facilities running smoothly, safely, and efficiently, helping our clients create spaces that work for everyone.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a caretaker, facilities, maintenance, or building services role. They will possess a broad range of practical skills, including general DIY, minor repairs, and basic maintenance activities. You will be proactive, customer-focused, and capable of identifying and resolving issues before they escape. Strong communication skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a flexible approach to work are essential. A willingness to learn new skills and undertake training to support your development is also important.

This is a full-time, Monday to Friday role, working across three school sites in Slough. The position operates on a shift basis, with working hours of either 06:30am to 2:30pm or 10:30am to 6:30pm. As this role involves working within a school environment, any offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

  • Monitor site presentation and identify defects or maintenance requirements.
  • Support school lettings and out-of-hours access arrangements where required.
