Job summary

G Nius in Salford seeks a reliable, practical Caretaker to keep estates clean, safe and welcoming. You’ll do grounds maintenance, cleaning, recycling and estate inspections, supporting residents and staff in a hands-on, varied role.

You’ll work independently and as part of a team, spotting issues, keeping records and helping prepare homes for letting. A full driving licence and flexible hours are needed.

Qualifications

• Experience in customer service and helping people.
• Practical gardening, grounds maintenance, cleaning or caretaking experience.
• Confidence using mowing equipment and hand tools.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload to completion.

• Professional conduct with residents and the public.
• Basic numeracy and written skills; smartphone data entry.
• Full driving licence; flexible hours and travel between sites.

We’re looking for a reliable, practical and customer-focused Caretaker to help keep estates, communal spaces and neighbourhoods clean, safe and welcoming.

This is a hands-on role with plenty of variety. From grounds maintenance and cleaning to recycling, estate inspections and supporting residents, you’ll play an important part in making sure neighbourhoods are places people are proud to call home.

You’ll spend your days out and about, working independently and as part of a team. You’ll spot issues before they become problems, take pride in getting things done and provide a friendly, helpful service to residents, visitors and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

• Keep neighbourhoods looking their best – carry out cleaning, grounds maintenance, gardening and general estate upkeep to agreed standards.
• Make a visible difference – mow, strim, trim hedges, clear communal areas and help maintain safe, tidy and welcoming spaces.
• Support residents – act as a friendly point of contact, respond to queries and provide excellent customer service.
• Keep things safe – carry out estate inspections, identify issues and report or resolve problems where appropriate.
• Support recycling – manage bins, skips and waste, unblock chutes where required and encourage residents to recycle.
• Help prepare homes for letting – support void clearance, cleaning, gardening, minor repairs, painting and removal of unwanted items.
• Support energy efficiency – assist with home visits and heating system settings where required.
• Look after equipment – carry out routine vehicle and equipment checks and use tools and machinery safely.
• Keep accurate records – record work completed using manual or digital systems and report any tasks that cannot be completed.
• Be part of the team – work closely with colleagues, contractors and residents to continually improve local neighbourhoods.
• Be flexible when needed – participate in weekend and bank holiday caretaking cover on a rota.

We’re Looking For Someone Who Has

• Experience working in a customer service environment and enjoys helping people.
• Practical experience in gardening, grounds maintenance, cleaning or caretaking.
• Confidence using equipment such as mowers, strimmers, hedge trimmers and other hand tools.
• The ability to work independently, manage your workload and see jobs through to completion.
• A practical, proactive approach and the confidence to spot problems and take action.
• The ability to deal with members of the public firmly, fairly and sympathetically.
• A good understanding of working safely, particularly when using equipment, vehicles and cleaning products.
• Good basic numeracy and written skills and the ability to use a smartphone to record work.
• A full driving licence.
• A flexible approach to working hours and the ability to travel between locations as required.

Salary

£25,878 per year
