Job summary

Rochdale Council is seeking a reliable Caretaker for a busy primary school. The role is 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with early morning shifts (6.45am–11.15am) and afternoon shifts (3pm–6pm). Holidays follow school holidays.

Duties include cleaning, basic maintenance, and ensuring a safe environment with COSHH and safety checks, in line with school patterns. Applicants must be Rochdale residents and DBS checked; sponsorship is not offered.

Qualifications

• Experience in cleaning roles is preferred.
• Ability to perform basic handyperson duties.
• Good communication and customer care skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness of designated areas and toilets according to cleaning specification.
• Complete basic handyperson tasks as required.
• Ensure security and safety, record keeping and compliance checks.

About the role:

External candidates applying for this role must be a Rochdale Resident who lives within the municipal boundaries of the Borough of Rochdale (i.e where the household pays council tax to Rochdale Borough Council).

Facilities Management are looking to appoint a robust and energetic Caretaker to work at this very busy primary School.

The working patterns are 37 hours per week Monday to Friday 6.45am- 11.15am (Fri 10.45pm) and 3pm -6pm.

Holidays are to be taken throughout school holiday periods in line with the schools holiday pattern.

Hours maybe subject to change dependant on the service needs. Overtime may be required from time to time and the appropriate rate will be paid.

We are looking for someone who is hard-working, honest, with excellent customer care skills with the ability to provide a quality service to this school.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining excellent standard of cleanliness of designated areas of the building, and duties will include toilets and associated facilities against an agreed cleaning specification with good attention to detail.

The ability to complete basic practical handypersons duties.

The ability to work to tight schedules with a flexible approach. Be able to work independently and also as part of a team.

Be able to communicate clearly and relate positively with the whole school team. Have a good knowledge of COSHH and Health and safety.

Ensure a secure and safe environment of the site to include record keeping and all compliance checks.

Experience is essential, although consideration will be taken with candidates with skills appropriate and willingness are invited to apply.
