Looking for a School Caretaker in Poole!

Job Title: Caretaker
Location: Poole
Job Type: Full-time
Salary Range: £27,711 - £30,060 (52 weeks per year)
Start Date: September

Are you passionate about creating safe and inspiring environments for students to learn and grow? Do you have a knack for organisation and leadership? GSL Education are seeking a dedicated Caretaker to join a local school based in Poole and help to maintain school’s facilities to the highest standards.

The school is looking for an individual to manage security and maintenance in school sites, handle various handyperson duties, and inspire excellence by aligning with the schools' vision and values. This role also includes contributing to the schools' development and ensuring the safety and well-being of students according to our safeguarding policies.

As a Caretaker, you will be supporting the school’s estate maintenance and compliance with health and safety standards

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure daily site security, including locking/unlocking buildings and responding to emergencies or callouts.
• Perform minor repairs and maintenance (e.g., plumbing, lighting, furniture); report major issues to management.
• Follow health, safety, and safeguarding procedures; identify and act on potential hazards.
• Monitor and maintain heating, lighting, and plumbing systems; arrange PAT testing when needed.
• Keep school grounds clean and safe, including snow clearing, weed control, and litter removal.
• Oversee cleaning standards and waste disposal; manage cleaning supply inventory.
• Set up and clear furniture for lunches, assemblies, and school events.
• Receive, check, and distribute deliveries; ensure safe storage of goods.
• Maintain daily logs for tasks, inspections, fire alarm tests, and meter readings.
• Work professionally with staff, pupils, contractors, and parents; maintain confidentiality.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Good communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills with a professional and positive attitude.
• Practical skills and experience in general maintenance, cleaning, and site management, with attention to detail and pride in work.
• Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and adapt to changing routines or emergencies calmly.
• Basic ICT skills and willingness to use digital tools for record-keeping and communication.
• Reliable, enthusiastic, and committed to high standards, ongoing training, and professional development.
• Willingness to take on responsibilities such as key holding and contributing to a safe and efficient school environment.
