Job summary

The Kemnal Academies Trust is seeking a conscientious Caretaker to join our Estates team at East Wickham Primary Academy. You will maintain the school site, ensure security and cleanliness, and support contractors as needed.

The ideal candidate will have DIY/handyperson skills, experience with health and safety compliance, and be able to carry out basic risk assessments. Flexible hours and a supportive environment are offered.

Our Opportunity

We are looking for a conscientious and self motivated Caretaker to join our supportive and collaborative team.

We strive to provide an aesthetically stimulating, nurturing environment for all our pupils and staff to learn, work, and play safely. The Caretaker will play a crucial role in keeping our school in perfect condition so our children can access the first-class education we can offer in an environment that is clean, safe and secure. You will have responsibility for security, monitoring, cleaning, building and maintenance.

You will be conscientious, dynamic and work well as part of the wider trust Estates team. To be considered for this role, you will need experience and knowledge of regulatory bodies and compliance. As a Caretaker you will be responsible for all planned maintenance, health and safety compliance, including carrying out and reviewing premises-related risk assessments and action plans. A good selection of DIY / Handyperson skills is essential.

Salary: Bexley 05 - £30,407

Closing Date: 23/10/2026

Hours 10:00am - 18:00pm. This is to work alongside our existing caretaker and we would expect some flexibility in working hours to cover leave etc.

The ideal Caretaker will be someone who is:
  • Enthusiastic and committed to working as part of a team
  • Committed to achieving high standards of cleanliness and adheres to Health and Safety compliance
  • Be a dedicated team player who develops excellent relationships with students and colleagues
  • An effective communicator who demonstrates positive behaviour around the school building
Main Purpose of the job:
  • Responsible for the maintenance, security and cleanliness of the school site.
  • Undertake minor repairs and maintenance in order to ensure the school can operate safely on a daily basis.
  • Represents the school in dealing with contractors and suppliers involved in the repair and upkeep of the building and site, in the absence of the Premises Manager.
  • A basic level of computer skills is required.
