Job summary

Adecco Portugal is recruiting for a Temporary School Caretaker in Cheadle Hulme. The role involves maintaining a safe, clean, and secure environment and supporting the day-to-day running of the site as part of the cleaning team.

The position is a temporary assignment for an initial 4 weeks, with responsibilities including opening and securing areas, basic maintenance, and responding to safety concerns. DBS is essential or can be obtained prior to starting.

Qualifications

• Enhanced DBS certificate or willingness to obtain one.
• Previous experience in a caretaker, facilities, maintenance, site operative, or similar role.
• Basic handyman and maintenance skills.
• Good understanding of health and safety responsibilities.
• Ability to work independently and use initiative.
• Reliable, punctual, and professional approach to work.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with staff, contractors, and visitors.

Responsibilities

• Opening and securing areas of the site as a designated keyholder.
• Carrying out minor maintenance and repair tasks (e.g., changing light bulbs, re-hanging toilet cubicle doors, operating a floor cleaning machine).
• Supporting and monitoring the cleaning team, ensuring standards are maintained and assisting with equipment requirements.
• Setting up halls and rooms, including arranging chairs for assemblies and events.
• Emptying litter bins and carrying out litter picking duties after break and lunch periods.
• Escorting contractors around the site when required.
• Responding to fire alarms and emergency situations.
• Conducting daily Health & Safety checks and ensuring site compliance.
• Carrying out weekly fire alarm call point tests.
• Reporting maintenance, safety, or security concerns promptly.

Salary: £14.00 per hour

Contract: Temporary (Initial 4-week assignment)

Hours: Monday to Friday, 10:45am - 6:45pm

An Enhanced DBS Certificate is essential, or applicants must be willing to undergo an Enhanced DBS check prior to starting.

About the Role

This is a hands‑on role responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and secure environment for staff, visitors, and students. The successful candidate will work closely with the cleaning team and support the day‑to‑day running of the site.

Key Responsibilities
