Location: Tor Bank School
Hours Per Week: Monday - Friday 36 Hours
Job Type: Permanent, Full Time
The Caretaker will be responsible for:
Security
- Be responsible for securing premises including ensuring all windows are closed, doors & gates, both internal & external are locked at the end of each day.
- Open & close the premises & grounds, except where authorized otherwise.
- Control and monitor access and departures of staff/deliveries/visitors to college car parks.
- Safe custody of keys of the premises, the allocation of keys to staff (where approved by the Facilities Manager).
- Operate fire alarm, intruder alarm & building security systems & report faults.
- Attend after-hour alarm callouts, ensuring premises are secure and cleaned after clearance.
- Report suspicious activity or breaches of security immediately.
- Apply grit/rock salt in snow & frost conditions to keep pathways clear.
Mechanical & Electrical Services
- Operate boilers/heating systems efficiently as per instructions.
- Replace lamps, tubs & plugs using appropriate equipment.
- Regularly inspect firefighting equipment and report defects.
- Monitor and document usage of fuel, water & electricity.
Porterage
- Handle receipt, distribution & transport of goods and materials.
- Prepare rooms for events and examinations.
- Dispatch goods and transport refuse bins.
Cleaning
- Maintain cleanliness of all surfaces, paths, and grounds.
- Ensure drains and grease-traps are clear.
- Assist in planning and implementing cleaning and maintenance procedures.
- Monitor and ensure cleaning standards meet company standards.
Handyperson Duties
- Carry out basic maintenance and repairs.
General Conditions
- Prepare premises for daily activities and assist in emergencies as Fire Warden.
- Comply with health & safety regulations and legal requirements.
Administration
- Report defects and assist with documentation and paperwork.
Training
- Attend necessary training to perform duties effectively.
Miscellaneous
- Undertake other duties as required and work outside normal hours when needed.
About You
Essential Criteria
- Experience in a similar role.
- Basic maintenance skills in building, joinery, mechanical/electrical, or grounds maintenance.
- Understanding of repair/maintenance issues.
- Current UK Driving Licence.
- Effective communication and workload prioritization skills.
- Availability for key holding and outside hours work.
- Good punctuality and on-call availability.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in an educational environment.
- Handyperson skills.
- H&S and BICSc qualifications.
