Responsible for design, configuration, management, and maintenance of the electronic program guide production system for all SABC broadcast platforms. This includes content metadata file management.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
BUSINESS OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY
- Design and implement Metadata/EPG systems.
- Configure and maintain Metadata/EPG systems.
- Install Metadata/EPG systems.
- Ensure installation and configurations are carried out as per specifications and agreements.
- Conduct Site Acceptance Tests according to the agreed test cases.
- Interface Metadata/EPG systems with TVBMS and Radio systems to extract information.
- Ensure accurate EPG information is available across all platforms including DTT, DTH, OTT, and digital media (websites, applications).
- Develop Business Requirements Documents for future Metadata/EPG system developments.
- Display Metadata/EPG information on STBs and all digital platforms as per business requirements.
- Perform functionality tests end-to-end and resolve bugs.
- Conduct data integrity tests and coordinate with TVBMS/Radio for fixes.
- Maintain both main and backup systems to ensure continuous operation.
- Monitor Metadata/EPG availability and inform channels accordingly.
- Ensure Metadata/EPG integration into the User Interface is complete and accurate.
- Verify that receiving devices display correct Metadata/EPG and that features like Parental Controls function properly.
- Complete all project documentation according to standards.
- Coordinate project plans with vendors and ensure synchronization.
- Compile and sign off on project closure reports with stakeholders.
TECHNICAL EFFICIENCY
- Understanding of DVB tables, Networks, Computer Systems, Broadcast workflows, and standards regarding Metadata/EPG.
- Knowledge of OTT system requirements and Transport Stream packets including MPEG2-TS.
STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT AND CHANGE MANAGEMENT
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on Metadata/EPG matters.
- Conduct end-to-end testing with stakeholders.
- Provide training on the EPG production system to colleagues for knowledge sharing.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS
- N D Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Computer Systems/Information Technology.
EXPERIENCE
- At least 2 years proven experience in the EPG environment.
- Strong understanding of digital multichannel broadcasting.
- Client service orientation, good communication skills, ability to work under pressure, and being a team player.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
- Ability to deliver projects on time within scope, specifications, and budget.
- Design workflows and SOPs.
- Implement changes with minimal disruption.
- Configure and test broadcasting equipment correctly.
