Job summary

Porthaven Care Homes is seeking an experienced Senior Care Assistant to lead a team in our warm care home environment, delivering person-centred care that respects dignity and individuality.

You will oversee Carers and Senior Carers, coordinate with families and health professionals to update care plans, administer medications, and ensure accurate daily records. DBS checks and right to work in the UK apply.

NVQ3 or equivalent encouraged; strong leadership and communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • Leadership and people management experience in a care setting.
  • Willingness to work towards or hold NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
  • Experience in a care home setting, ideally as a Senior Carer.
  • Competence in administering medication within a care home.
  • Understanding of care planning and ability to create/update plans.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Leadership abilities to motivate and support a team of carers.
  • Desire to help others and thrive in a team delivering high standards of care.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire a team of Carers and Senior Carers in daily home operations.
  • Regularly communicate with residents' families and healthcare professionals to write/adapt care plans.
  • Administer medication and complete risk assessments.
  • Ensure residents' needs are always met.
  • Keep daily records up to date and accurately reflect care provided.

  • You are willing to work towards or have your NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
  • You have previous experience in a care home environment, ideally in a Senior Carer role.
  • You are confident in administering medication within a care home setting, including supporting multiple residents.
  • You understand care planning and are comfortable updating or creating care plans.
  • You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • You have strong leadership skills and can motivate and support those around you.
  • Most importantly, you have a natural desire to help others and thrive within a team of Senior Carers and Care Team Leaders, all committed to providing the highest standard of care for our residents.
About the role:

Leading a team of Carers and Senior Carers, you will deliver person‑centred care to our residents to ensure they retain their dignity and individuality. By leading a happy and competent team, you can really make a difference in your home and also the local community. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and inspiring a team of Carers and Senior Carers in the day to day running of the home.
  • Communicating regularly with our residents' families and Health care professionals to write and adapt care plans.
  • Administering medication and completing risk assessments
  • Ensuring the needs of the residents are always met.
  • Ensuring residents daily records are up to date and accurately reflect the care provided.

The successful candidate will be subject to the provision of satisfactory references and a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, and they must be authorised to work in the United Kingdom.
