Job description

Care & Support Worker

Part time – 20.5 hours per week

£24,479 per annum (pro rata to £14,337 per annum)

Sandown, Isle of Wight

Ref: 450

About The Role

We’re looking for caring, positive people to join our team to help us provide personalised, high-quality support to the residents and individuals who use our services. You’ll be working with a diverse group of people, including older adults, individuals with learning disabilities or autism, people with mental health needs and those with more complex support requirements.

As a Care & Support Worker, you’ll be part of a supportive team delivering care across our supported housing schemes, extra care services and within the local community. You’ll provide care and support in line with individual care plans, helping people to live as independently as possible while promoting dignity, choice and inclusion.

This is a hands-on role that requires flexibility. You’ll be expected to work evenings and weekends where required and may undertake sleep in duties or take part in an on-call rota. The role also involves physically demanding tasks, including moving and handling, and responding calmly in emergency situations.

Our CQC registered office is in Newport, but this role is primarily based in Sandown and the surrounding Bay area. You’ll support people in their own homes and within our local schemes, with occasional travel to other locations across the Island where required.

About you

You’re compassionate, patient and committed to making a positive difference to people’s lives. You’re comfortable working in a CQC regulated care environment and understand the importance of safeguarding, dignity and person-centred support.

You will need:

  • A caring and empathetic approach, with the ability to build positive, trusting relationships
  • The ability to deliver care and support in line with individual care plans, promoting independence, choice and inclusion
  • An understanding of safeguarding responsibilities, with confidence following procedures and reporting concerns
  • The ability to remain calm and professional in emergencies and challenging situations
  • A commitment to equality, dignity and anti-discriminatory practice
  • The physical ability to undertake moving and handling tasks
  • Basic IT skills to maintain accurate records and reports
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, sleep in duties and on call rotas
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English
  • Willingness to work towards an NVQ Level 2 in Care (or equivalent)

No previous experience is required - full training and support will be provided.

Successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.

The service focuses on helping people live independently, achieve their goals and remain active within their communities. We support individuals with their wellbeing, safety and daily living, tailoring our approach to meet each person’s unique needs.
