Job summary

The University of Sheffield is seeking a Centre for Care Research Associate to join the ESRC Centre for Care team in a hybrid, fixed-term role. You will lead research and evidence gathering on care topics, collaborate with partners, and support knowledge exchange and policy impact.

A postgraduate social science qualification and strong research methods are essential. You will plan and deliver synthesis of literature, manage data, and present findings to diverse audiences.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate degree in a social science subject or equivalent experience, preferably as applied to social care and/or social policy.
• Evidence of strength in social research methods.
• Experience of researching adult social care or care more broadly.
• Experience of synthesising and summarising research evidence and policy papers for relevant audiences to support knowledge exchange and impact on policy or practice.
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, including report writing and delivering presentations.
• Proven ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, to meet specified deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
• Proven ability to contribute to research impact or knowledge exchange activities that support the use of research evidence in policy or practice.
• Commitment to co-production and involvement of users in research and in constructive engagement with care sector partners.
• Ability to work independently, seeking guidance where appropriate, and to adapt own skills to new circumstances.
• Ability to develop and maintain a network of relevant contacts.
• Ability to present information and ideas in engaging and interesting ways.
• Expertise in specific areas or methods related to care research: technology/ care policy/ comparative policy analysis/ carers

Responsibilities

• Be an active member of the ESRC Centre for Care team, collaborating with colleagues and partners.
• Plan, develop and undertake research and evidence gathering on critical care issues, leading to publications.
• Support impact and knowledge exchange activities with the Centre’s team.
• Develop reviews and syntheses of literature; organise and analyse data; prepare reports and presentations.
• Keep clear records and coordinate meetings and activities.
• Collaborate with partners to collate materials from projects.
• Present research at academic and policy events.
• Manage your own work; align with Centre for Care programme and deadlines.
• Identify research risks and assist with safety and ethics protocols.
• Contribute to research proposals for the Centre for Care.
• Carry out other duties commensurate with grade and remit.
