Job summary

Clayton Legal is seeking an experienced Family Law Paralegal to join a busy team in the St Helens area. The role focuses on legal aid children law cases and representing children through CAFCASS Guardian, alongside some parent representation.

You will support solicitors by progressing cases, taking instructions, preparing statements and court documents, and managing timetables and deadlines while liaising with clients, counsel, and experts.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years' experience in a family law role.
• Strong understanding of children law proceedings.
• Excellent organisation and time management.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Law degree is desirable, but practical experience is essential.

Responsibilities

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Family Law Paralegal or Family Fee Earner to join a busy legal team for a firm in the St Helens area, supporting solicitors with a varied caseload of family law matters.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone with previous family law experience who can hit the ground running. The work will focus predominantly on legal aid children law cases, including representing children through their CAFCASS Guardian, as well as some parent representation.

You will support solicitors with progressing children law cases, taking client instructions, preparing statements, court orders and legal aid applications. You'll liaise with clients, counsel, Guardians and experts, obtain relevant records, manage court timetables, update bundles and ensure court directions, deadlines and compliance requirements are met.

What are they looking for?

• At least two years' experience in a similar family law role – essential.
• A good understanding of children law proceedings.
• Excellent organisation and time management.

• Confidence managing a busy workload and meeting deadlines.

A law degree would be desirable, but relevant practical experience is essential.
