Job summary

Avery Healthcare in Braintree is seeking a warm Sous Chef to support the head chef in delivering nutritionally balanced, high-quality meals for residents at Braintree Mews Care Home.

You will lead a culinary team, prepare modified diets per IDDSI, and ensure hygiene and safety. Applicants should have City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or NVQ and at least one year of catering experience.

This role is based on site in Braintree, with opportunities to grow within Avery's award-winning team.

Qualifications

• Hold City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or NVQ or equivalent.
• Minimum 1 year of catering experience.
• Demonstrate compassion and commitment to high-quality culinary services.
• Adaptive and flexible to cover a range of responsibilities on short notice.

Responsibilities

• Prepare modified diets that look appealing and balanced per IDDSI.
• Supervise and direct culinary staff under the Head Chef, training unqualified staff.
• Ensure food preparation meets high hygiene standards.
• Support all culinary team members in understanding Avery's food safety system.
