Job summary

Bupa's Southlands Care Home in Harrogate is seeking a Maintenance Operative to keep facilities fully functional. You will perform building and equipment maintenance across the home, ensuring safety, compliance, and high standards of presentation.

The role requires knowledge of building services, a full or demonstrable trades background, and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team. Driving licence and flexible availability are important.

Qualifications

• A good understanding of building services including, heating, hot and cold-water distribution, ventilation, electrical distribution, and plumbing
• Sound understanding of building fabric and its maintenance
• Practical experience of planned maintenance systems and record keeping
• Knowledge of relevant statutory requirements and experience of compliance
• A full driving licence
• A building/electrical/plumbing qualification (City & Guilds, BTEC, ONC, HNC etc) or a minimum of 3 years hand on experience in property maintenance and general repairs where possible
• Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Computer literate
• Good Customer service skills
• Be flexible to meet changing demands within the care home
• Practical ability and experience in painting and decorating

Responsibilities

• Ensure that all health and safety and compliance checks are carried out using the provided digital systems as per the timescales directed by Bupa SOPs
• Action and close any tasks attributed to the Maintenance Manager or home highlighted on Bupa compliance tools
• Ensure that safety and cleanliness within the care home and grounds meets Environmental Health, Fire Authority, Legionella, and Health & Safety requirements
• Complete maintenance and repair tasks to a high standard, in a timely manner and offer value for money while maintaining decor to company standards
• Regularly review residents’ preferences in relation to their personal space and document/action
• Report defects, obtain quotes and manage repairs using Bupa approved contractors
• Assist with induction of new colleagues regarding emergency exits, fire points and evacuation procedures
