Job summary

BBS Recruitment is seeking a Chef for a care home in Somerset to provide nutritious, well-balanced meals for residents, meeting dietary needs and personal preferences.

The role involves menu planning, cooking, and upholding food safety standards while delivering a positive dining experience for residents. You will work with care staff to understand needs and ensure high-quality service in a compliant kitchen.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook fresh, nutritious meals for residents, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.
• Plan menus that meet residents’ dietary requirements, including allergies, cultural preferences, specialist diets, and medical needs.
• Work closely with care staff, residents, and healthcare professionals to understand individual nutritional requirements.
• Ensure meals are prepared and presented to a high standard.
• Maintain accurate records of food temperatures, cleaning schedules, stock levels, and food safety checks.
• Follow all food hygiene, health and safety, and infection control procedures.
• Manage food ordering, stock rotation, and minimise food waste.
• Ensure the kitchen is kept clean, organised, and compliant with food safety regulations.
• Adapt meals for residents with swallowing difficulties, such as soft or modified diets, where required.
• Support residents’ wellbeing by encouraging choice, dignity, and enjoyment during mealtimes.
• Assist with special events, celebrations, and themed meals within the care home.
• Work collaboratively with the care team to ensure residents receive the best possible service.
