Reports to: Senior Care Assistant / Team Leader

Job Purpose

To provide high-quality, person-centred care to residents in a care home setting, ensuring their dignity, choice, and independence are respected. The Care Assistant will support residents with daily living activities and promote their physical and emotional wellbeing, in accordance with Health and Social Care Standards and the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) codes of practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist residents with personal care tasks such as washing, dressing, toileting, and mobility
• Support with mealtimes, including preparing and assisting with food and drink
• Build and maintain warm, professional relationships with residents and their families
• Contribute to residents care plans and daily records using accurate and respectful documentation
• Prompt or administer medication as required (if trained and authorised)
• Promote independence and encourage participation in activities and social events
• Follow infection prevention and control procedures at all times
• Report changes in residents health or wellbeing to senior staff promptly
• Support new residents with settling in and orientation to the home
• Uphold confidentiality and treat all residents with respect and compassion
• Adhere to all policies, procedures, and regulations, including SSSC registration and PVG compliance
  
  

Requirements:

Essential

• Genuine interest in working with older or vulnerable people
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Able to work flexibly including evenings, weekends, and public holidays
• Willingness to register with the SSSC
• PVG Scheme membership
  
  

Desirable

• Previous experience in a care home or similar setting
• SVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or working towards)
• Training in moving and handling, dementia care, or medication support
