Job summary

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a Senior Assistant Technical Officer to join the Cardio-respiratory team. The role blends work across The Princess Royal Hospital, The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and the new Community Diagnostic Centre, with training in ECG, spirometry and basic respiratory testing.

The post requires good communication with patients, IT skills, and the ability to work independently at the CDC, covering hospital environments as needed.

Qualifications

• GCSE A-C in English/maths or equivalent.
• GCSE grade C or above in science.
• Certificate in Spirometry.
• SCST Certificate in ECG interpretation or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• To assist in the provision of a high quality Cardio-respiratory Service.
• To perform and/or assist with a range of routine cardiological and respiratory investigations to National Standard as determined by professional guidelines.
• Senior Assistant Technical Officers (SATO) are health care workers who perform or assist with a range of routine physiological measurement investigations.
• The role requires excellent communication skills to help reassure patients which are often anxious.
• There is also a requirement for the post holder to be able to assess potential contraindications and to be able to understand and obtain accurate spirometry results. Full training will be given.
