Job summary

Qualifications

• AAT/ACCA or equivalent accounting qualification is required.
• Proven experience in fixed asset accounting and lease accounting under IFRS 16.
• Experience managing fixed asset registers, depreciation, and lease reconciliations.

Responsibilities

• End-to-end accounting of fixed assets from acquisition to disposal.

• Maintain fixed asset CWIP and reconciliations to GL monthly.

Job description

DP World are recruiting for a skilled and detail-oriented Capital & Lease Accountant to join our finance team. This role will focus on the accurate management, recording, and reporting of fixed assets and lease agreements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal controls while supporting informed financial decision-making across the business.

About the role:

• Maintain full responsibility for the end-to-end accounting of fixed assets, including tangible and intangible assets, from acquisition through to disposal.
• Record fixed asset acquisitions, disposals, transfers, and depreciation accurately within the accounting system.
• Create, implement, and monitor controls, procedures, and documentation for the effective management of fixed assets.
• Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset register and capital work-in-progress (CWIP) accounts to the general ledger on a monthly basis.
• Track project costs, close asset accounts upon project completion, and ensure alignment with capital budgets and management approvals.
• Conduct periodic physical asset counts, verifications, impairment reviews, and obsolescence assessments.
• Recommend asset disposals and provide analysis to support capital investment decisions.
• Prepare audit schedules related to fixed assets and leases, and support internal and external audit enquiries.
• Manage the Asset for Expenditure (AFE) process and monitor capital expenditure against approved budgets.
• Manage lease accounting in line with IFRS 16, including assessment of contracts, recognition of right-of-use assets and lease liabilities, and ongoing reporting.
• Prepare monthly lease accounting entries, reconciliations, forecasts, and disclosures.
• Collaborate with finance, project, and operational teams to ensure accurate capital and lease reporting.
• Identify and implement continuous improvements within capital and lease accounting processes.
• Support the Finance Manager and wider finance team with ad hoc analysis and reporting as required.

Your Key Skills:

• AAT, ACCA, or equivalent accounting qualification, or demonstrable relevant accounting experience.
• Proven experience in capital or fixed asset accounting, ideally within a large or international organisation.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, fixed asset accounting, and lease accounting under IFRS 16 / FRS 16.
• Experience managing fixed asset registers, depreciation calculations, lease reconciliations, and disclosures.
• Knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements impacting asset and lease accounting.
• Experience working with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, and AARO.
• Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Proficient in spreadsheet use, data analysis, and financial reporting.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
• A proactive and methodical approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
