Deliver construction projects that create better places for children and young people.
We are investing in an ambitious three-year capital programme to increase local provision for children and young people across Barnsley.
This is a permanent role, with an initial focus on delivering the three-year capital programme.
This is a construction delivery role.
You do not need to be a specialist in children in care or SEND/AP.
We need someone who understands how to take capital projects from an agreed requirement through feasibility, design, procurement, construction, completion and handover, ideally with experience in a public sector environment.
Your expertise should be in construction project management, health and safety, contractor management and capital programme delivery. You will work alongside strategic property services, children’s services, education and commissioning colleagues who will provide the service-specific knowledge.
You will ensure each scheme is safe, compliant, affordable and suitable for the people who will use it.
You do not need previous experience of SEND services or residential children’s care.

Your sector background is less important than your ability to deliver complex construction projects safely and effectively.
You must be able to demonstrate strong experience of construction project management, health and safety compliance, contractor management, capital budgets, programme control and risk management.
The programme will increase the range and availability of high‑quality local provision for children and young people across Barnsley. By delivering new and improved buildings, you will help create more local options that meet children’s needs and enable more children to remain close to their families, schools and communities.
