Job summary

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Patient Pathway Navigator to support cancer pathways. You will coordinate investigations and appointments, act as a first point of contact for patient queries, and help families understand next steps.

The role involves MDT collaboration, data management, and improving pathway timeliness. The post focuses on escalation of delays, supporting the cancer team, and ensuring patient-centered care.

Qualifications

  • Administrative training to vocational level 3 or equivalent.
  • Diploma level 4 or equivalent in admin procedures.
  • Grounding in medical terminology.
  • Relevant NHS experience with broad specialty knowledge.
  • Experience in pathway coordination/navigation.
  • Proficient with hospital computerised patient systems.
  • Experience in patient or customer-facing role.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate diagnostic investigations and appointments within the cancer pathways.
  • Act as first point of contact for patient queries about cancer pathways.
  • Proactively communicate with patients and families about upcoming appointments and next steps.
  • Be knowledgeable on cancer waiting time standards and ensure timed pathways.
  • Support MDT coordinators and assist in weekly MDT meetings.
  • Prepare and facilitate weekly cancer PTL meetings and record outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain administrative systems to support the cancer team.
  • Review waiting times and escalate delays or breaches as needed.
