Job summary

UWE Bristol is seeking a hands-on Grounds Operative to join the Grounds Team at the Frenchay campus. You will care for lawns, planting areas, trees, hedges and green spaces, helping to keep the campus safe, well‑presented and inviting for staff, students and visitors.

The role combines practical horticultural work with maintenance duties, including mowing, strimming, pruning and using a range of grounds machinery.

Qualifications

• Full current driving licence is essential.
• RHS Level 2 in Horticulture or equivalent qualifications expected.
• Experience using horticultural and grounds machinery such as ride‑on mowers, tractors, brushcutters, hedge trimmers and blowers.
• Strong plant knowledge and garden/grounds care understanding.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Good verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain lawns, planting beds, trees, hedges and other green spaces across campus.
• Mow, strim, prune, plant and operate a range of grounds machinery safely.
• Contribute to sustainability and biodiversity projects on campus.
• Support the Grounds Team to ensure safe, well‑presented spaces for staff, students and visitors.
