Job summary

Nottingham City Council is seeking a compassionate CAMHS Practitioner to join our Citywide Targeted CAMHS Team. You will conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, develop formulations and deliver short-term, evidence-based interventions for children, young people and families.

Salary: Starting Salary is £37,563 (Level one) rising to £40,444 per annum (pro rata for part-time)

About the Role

We are looking for a compassionate, skilled and resilient CAMHS Practitioner to join our Citywide Targeted CAMHS Team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children, young people and families experiencing emotional wellbeing and mental health difficulties. Working within a trauma-informed and relationship-based framework, you will support children and young people to understand their experiences, build resilience and achieve positive outcomes.

As part of a supportive multi-disciplinary team, you will undertake comprehensive mental health assessments, develop collaborative formulations and deliver short term, evidence-based therapeutic interventions to children, young people and their families. While many referrals present with mild to moderate mental health difficulties, practitioners must also be confident in working with complexity, including self-harm, suicidal ideation, emotional dysregulation, safeguarding concerns and contextual risks. The successful candidate will be able to assess, manage and communicate risk effectively whilst maintaining a child-centred, compassionate and strengths-based approach.

The role involves providing individual, family and group interventions, contributing to the CAMHS Single Point of Access, and working closely with partners across education, health, social care and the voluntary sector to ensure children receive the right support at the right time. You will play an important role in safeguarding children and promoting their emotional wellbeing through effective multi-agency collaboration and care planning.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

Qualifications

• A relevant professional qualification in Social Work, Nursing, Teaching or a related discipline at Degree level or above, supported by substantial post-qualification experience in the assessment and treatment of children and young people experiencing mental health difficulties.
• Specialist training, accreditation or qualification in an evidence-based therapeutic intervention, with the ability to integrate therapeutic knowledge into assessment, formulation and intervention planning for children, young people and families presenting with a range of mental health needs and complexities

Essential Experience

• Demonstrable experience of delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions to children, young people and families across a diverse range of mental health presentations and levels of complexity, utilising assessment and formulation to inform intervention planning and outcomes.
• Extensive experience of assessing and managing significant clinical and safeguarding risk, including self-harm, suicidality, child protection concerns and environmental adversity, whilst working effectively within complex multi-agency systems and contributing to shared decision-making regarding care and risk management.

Essential Knowledge

• Advanced knowledge of child and adolescent mental health presentations, including complexity arising from trauma, attachment difficulties, neurodiversity, self-harm, suicidality and emotional dysregulation, with the ability to apply evidence-based therapeutic models to assessment, formulation and intervention.
• Expert knowledge of safeguarding, risk assessment and risk management within children's services, including the application of professional curiosity, contextual safeguarding and effective multi-agency decision-making to manage complex and high-risk situations.

Essential Skills and Competencies

• Highly developed assessment and formulation skills, with the ability to integrate information from multiple sources, analyse complexity and deliver evidence-based interventions for children and young people presenting with a range of mental health difficulties, trauma histories and contextual challenges.
• Ability to exercise professional judgement and autonomous decision-making when managing significant clinical and safeguarding risk, including self-harm and suicidal presentations, whilst influencing and contributing effectively to multi-agency planning and risk management processes.
