Job summary

ITV is seeking a Camera Assistant to support the Camera Department in capturing high-quality footage for Emmerdale. You will prepare and maintain camera and grip gear, support studio and location shoots, and collaborate with operators, grips and directors to ensure smooth, safe production.

The role offers on-site work in Leeds with on-the-job training to advance technical knowledge, colourimetry awareness, and camera techniques for future camera-operating duties.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 months experience in a practical, technical or production environment.
  • Evidence of following technical instructions or procedures accurately and safely.
  • Ability to determine what makes a good shot and how camerawork enhances storytelling.
  • Experience working with others to complete time-sensitive tasks and communicate progress.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, move, connect and look after camera and grip equipment.
  • Support filming in studios and at locations, including multi-camera production.
  • Work closely with camera operators, grips, directors and production colleagues to keep filming safe and smooth.

Job description

The team & The role As a Camera Assistant, you'll help our Camera Department capture high-quality pictures for Emmerdale. You'll support filming in our studios, including multi-camera production, and at locations. You'll prepare, move, connect, check and look after camera and grip equipment. You'll work closely with camera operators, grips, directors, production colleagues and other crew members to help filming run safely and smoothly. We'll support you to develop your technical knowledge and camera-operating skills, on the job. You may carry out camera-operating work once you've completed the appropriate training and demonstrated the required level of competence.

  • Minimum 6 months experience of working in a practical, technical or production environment, gained through employment, freelance work, education, training, volunteering or personal projects.
  • Evidence of following technical instructions or agreed procedures accurately and safely, including completing checks, preparing equipment or recording information.
  • Ability to determine what makes a good shot and how camerawork enhances creative storytelling.
  • Evidence of working effectively with other people to complete time-sensitive tasks, including communicating progress, raising issues and responding to changing priorities.
  • Ability to organise equipment and information carefully, demonstrated through an example of checking, labelling, recording, storing or transporting items accurately.
  • A valid manual driving licence and ability to drive production vehicles between the Leeds base and filming locations, where this remains an essential operational requirement. We'll consider reasonable adjustments and alternative arrangements where appropriate.
  • This role entails the qualitative assessment and correction of the colourimetry of video images with the ability to spot colour or quality camera-related issues and the ability to spot and understand colour rendition.
  • You will need experience of duties such as: rigging and derigging camera equipment; cable-clearing; charging camera batteries and setting up monitors out on location and assisting with focusing and tracking., An understanding of camera equipment and production workflows, or the ability to learn technical processes quickly.
  • An interest in developing knowledge of camera technology, lenses, lighting and production techniques.
  • A commitment to keeping up to date with new technology and industry developments.

  • Ability to identify and resolve straightforward technical issues within your level of responsibility and know when to elevate more complex problems.
  • Uses a systematic and logical approach when troubleshooting or prioritising tasks.
