Job summary

Academics is seeking a dedicated Challenging Behaviour Teaching Assistant in Reading, Berkshire, with ASAP start. You will provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils, helping them manage SEMH needs and develop emotional regulation strategies.

The role requires calm, patient and confident approach in potentially challenging situations. Experience in education, care or youth work is highly desirable; you'll work closely with teachers and the pastoral team to create a safe, structured learning

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour or SEMH.
• Calm, patient, and confident in challenging situations.
• Previous experience in education, care, youth work, SEN, or behavioural support is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils.
• Support pupils who display challenging or disruptive behaviour.
• Implement positive behaviour strategies and individual plans.
• Help pupils develop emotional regulation and coping strategies.
• Use calm and effective de-escalation techniques when required.
• Encourage positive behaviour and engagement with learning.
• Build strong, consistent relationships with pupils.
• Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and other professionals.
• Create a structured, safe, and supportive classroom environment.
