Job summary

Hewland Engineering Ltd seeks a Calibration Technician to lead calibration of measuring equipment, supporting ISO 9001 and AS/EN 9100 standards. The role covers calibration of hand gauges, CMM usage, and ensuring equipment compliance across the business.

You will maintain calibration records, generate reports and certificates, and contribute to continuous improvement while supporting new business opportunities. Excellent attention to detail and proactive learner are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience calibrating measuring equipment to recognised standards.
• Ability to interpret drawings and specifications.
• Experience maintaining calibration records and certificates.
• Familiarity with ISO9001/AS9100 quality systems is advantageous.
• Proactive learner and quick to adapt to in-house systems.

Responsibilities

• Calibrate a range of hand equipment and gauges.
• Document and organise the calibration system.
• Provide support for existing and new business opportunities.
• Operate CMMs to verify parts and assemblies.
• Maintain calibration database and recall schedules.
• Order measuring instruments and manage inventory.
• Identify recurring quality issues and communicate effectively.
• Check and verify equipment compliance within the business.
• Produce calibration reports and certificates.
• Maintain and upkeep all measuring equipment and gauges.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
• Develop calibration techniques in line with ISO/AS standards.

Due to Hewland’s continued expansion and strong product portfolio across both motorsport, Defence and Aerospace,we are looking to recruit a Calibration Technician to lead calibration of measuring equipment in order to support ISO 9001 and AS/EN 9100 standards.

Duties and responsibilities include:

• Calibrate a range of hand equipment/gauges
• Document and organise calibration system
• To provide support for both existing and new business opportunities
• Operating CMM's
• Efficient and on-time calibration recall
• Daily maintenance calibration database
• Ordering of measuring instruments
• Identifying reoccurring quality issues and communicate them appropriately
• Check and verify the compliance of measuring equipment within the business
• Produce Calibration reports and certification
• Maintaining the upkeep of all measuring equipment and gauges
• Participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives
• Constant development of calibration techniques in line with ISO / AS standards

The ideal candidate must have/ skills required:

• Calibration experience
• Manual Inspection Techniques
• Experience working with mechanical components
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
• Industry relevant qualifications
• Good understanding of following procedures and instructions
• Ensure that all measuring and test equipment used by the company (Micrometers, Verniers, DTI, plug gauges etc…) is calibrated
• An ability to learn in-house systems and pick up computer programmes quickly and efficiently
• Organised and analytical
• Must have a keen eye for detail, superb communication skills and a precise, meticulous approach
• Able to create professional and accurate reports in Microsoft software.
• Be pro-active and self-motivated
• CMM experience advantageous

Experience / Essential qualities in the following areas will be a distinct advantage:

• ISO9001:2015 basic knowledge
• An apprenticeship or calibration time-served would also be advantageous but not essential (Calibration to Hewland’s calibration standards will be provided)
• Experience working within an engineering environment
• Experience of maintaining a calibration system
• Creating and updating QA paperwork (such as Certificates of Conformity)
• Other company specific training will be provided
