Job summary

ABP UK is seeking a hands-on Calf Rearing Technician on a 12-month fixed-term contract with potential to become permanent. You will support calf rearing operations, monitor health and welfare, and assist with weighing and EID tagging across contracted units.

The role offers a mix of independent work and team collaboration, with regular travel across South Wales and the Southwest and occasional overnight stays. A full UK driving license is required.

• Practical, hands-on approach with livestock; calves or dairy experience preferred.
• Good observational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills for reporting and feedback.

• Support the Calf Rearing Manager with routine visits to contracted calf rearing units.
• Monitor calf health and welfare, identifying and flagging any unviable or at-risk animals.
• Provide clear and timely feedback to the wider business; assist with weighing calves and linking/recording EID tags.
• Support vaccination programmes as required.
• Carry out quality checks on calves entering the scheme at collection centers.
• Ensure high standards of animal welfare and biosecurity are maintained at all times.

About The Role

• Support the Calf Rearing Manager with routine visits to contracted calf rearing units


• Monitor calf health and welfare, identifying and flagging any unviable or at-risk animals


• Provide clear and timely feedback to the wider business Assist with weighing calves and linking/recording EID (electronic identification) tags


• Support vaccination programmes as required


• Carry out quality checks on calves entering the scheme at collection centers


• Ensure high standards of animal welfare and biosecurity are maintained at all times

Working Style

• Combination of independent work and collaborative support with Calf Rearing Managers


• Manage your own schedule while contributing to planned strategic visits


• Regular travel across South Wales and the Southwest, including occasional overnight stays
