Job summary

Langworthycornerstone Café is seeking a flexible Catering Assistant to support the daily operation of the Jigsaw Café during a busy summer period. The role is temporary, offering variety and a hands-on chance to serve our community with warmth and efficiency.

You will help with drinks, snacks and simple food, ensure cleanliness and safety, handle payments, and assist volunteers. A Food Hygiene Level 2 certificate is desirable, and DBS checks are supported.

Qualifications

• Proven positive and professional customer service approach.
• Awareness of food hygiene, cleanliness and safe working practices.
• Ability to follow instructions and agreed procedures.
• Reliable and flexible throughout the summer period.
• Experience supporting volunteers is desirable but not essential.
• Ability to complete a DBS check (support provided).

Responsibilities

• Serve customers in a friendly and professional manner.
• Prepare and serve drinks, snacks and simple food items.
• Take payments and follow cash handling procedures.
• Keep café, kitchen and service areas clean and tidy.
• Follow food hygiene, health and safety, and allergen procedures.
• Support volunteers where appropriate.
• Help with stock rotation, labeling and basic café checks.
• Report any issues to the appropriate manager.
• Contribute to a positive, inclusive and community-focused café environment.

Overview:

Are you passionate about good food, community, and creating a welcoming space for all? Within our Jigsaw Café, we are looking for a flexible and reliable Catering Assistant to join our team on a temporary basis during a busy time this summer.

About the role:

The Café Assistant will support the day‑to‑day operation of the café, helping to provide a positive customer experience and ensuring the café remains clean, safe, welcoming and well organised.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

• A positive and professional approach to customers, staff and volunteers.
• Awareness of food hygiene, cleanliness and safe working practices.
• Ability to follow instructions and agreed procedures.
• Reliability and flexibility during the summer period.
• Experience supporting volunteers desirable, but not essential
• Ability to complete a DBS check (support provided)

Key Responsibilities

Duties may include:

Ideal Candidate

• Has a Food Hygiene Level 2 certificate.
• Experience of working in a café, kitchen, catering or customer‑facing role.
• Experience of working in a community, charity or volunteer‑supported setting.
• Awareness of allergens and basic food safety requirements.
• Reliable, flexible, and able to adapt to changing daily needs.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Comfortable to use a POS system and cash handling.
