Acadian Engineering Ltd in Bo’ness, Scotland, is seeking a CAD Technician to join our office-based engineering team. You will produce and maintain detailed 2D drawings and 3D models for our range of commercial ovens and cooking equipment, using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

You’ll collaborate with workshop engineers, help resolve manufacturing challenges, and occasionally visit customer sites for measurements and bespoke design work.

Competenze

• Proven experience using SolidWorks in a mechanical design or CAD environment.
• Good understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with sheet metal design and fabrication.

About Acadian Engineering Ltd

Acadian Engineering Ltd is a small, family-run OEM with over 30 years of experience designing and manufacturing commercial ovens and cookers.

Based in Bo’ness, we manufacture specialist equipment for customers across the UK, with installations worldwide.

The Role

This is a predominantly office-based mechanical design role, working alongside our engineering and production teams.

You will be responsible for producing and maintaining detailed 2D engineering drawings and 3D models for our range of commercial ovens and cooking equipment.

You’ll also have regular involvement with our workshop engineers, helping develop bespoke components, resolve manufacturing challenges and make amendments to existing designs where required.

The role will also provide opportunities to design components for CNC machining, including parts manufactured on our CNC lathe and milling machine.

There will be occasional customer liaison and site visits to measure, assess and develop bespoke design solutions.

It’s a great opportunity to see your designs progress from initial concepts through to manufactured components and finished products.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce detailed 2D engineering drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
• Develop and modify existing designs, components and assemblies.
• Produce manufacturing drawings for sheet metal fabrication and mechanical components.
• Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Assist with the design and development of new products and equipment.
• Develop bespoke designs to meet specific customer requirements.
• Design and develop components for CNC machining, including CNC lathe and milling operations.
• Work alongside workshop engineers to ensure designs are practical and suitable for manufacture.

What We’re Looking For

• Proven experience using SolidWorks in a mechanical design or CAD environment.
• Good understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with sheet metal design and fabrication.
• Ability to produce accurate manufacturing drawings.
• Understanding of mechanical assemblies, components and tolerances.
• Good attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a small engineering team.
• A practical, problem‑solving approach to engineering.
• Experience or an interest in CNC machining and designing components for CNC lathe and milling operations would be advantageous.
