Job summary

Avove Utilities is seeking a CAD Manager to join our UK Water Design Team. You will oversee CAD from feasibility to construction documentation, lead CAD teams, and ensure adherence to standards across water and wastewater projects.

You will work within a multi-disciplinary team, supporting long-term frameworks with Northumbrian Water Group, Severn Trent Water and United Utilities, with hybrid work around Glasgow, Durham or Birmingham.

Qualifications

• A relevant degree qualification or have completed a learning agreement/apprenticeship and obtained a relevant technical qualification (HNC, HND etc).
• Basic understanding of water/wastewater infrastructure design.
• Knowledge of BIM and ability to lead BIM implementation.
• Proficiency with Autodesk Construction Cloud ACC and related engineering software.
• Familiar with quality management, CDM health and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the entire CAD process from initial design to final documentation.
• Lead CAD design and document control teams and other team members.
• Ensure outputs align with company and client CAD procedures and standards.
• Develop and implement CAD standards to ensure consistency and accuracy.
• Mentor CAD technicians across grades and support software/hardware management.

About the role…

We are currently recruiting for a CAD Manager to join our UK wide Water Design Team. The position is required to support our expanding Water Utilities workload and will typically involve providing designs for water and wastewater, infrastructure, and non-infrastructure projects as part of a multi-disciplinary design team. This will include design delivery at all stages, from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed designs for construction and commissioning.

The specific roles are required primarily to support our long-term frameworks with Northumbrian Water Group, Severn Trent Water and United Utilities. There will be additional opportunities to work on other projects and frameworks throughout the UK for a variety of clients including Scottish Water and Edinburgh Airport.

This is a permanent position and will be of a hybrid nature ideally based in or around any of our Glasgow, Durham or Birmingham offices, however, other locations or alternative ways of working would be given due consideration.

What will your day look like…

• Oversee the entire CAD Process from initial design to final documentation
• Work to appropriate project controls, guidelines and procedures.
• Lead CAD design and document control teams and other team members in undertaking a wide range of design related tasks.
• Lead design outputs in accordance with the company and client CAD procedures and standards.
• Lead the development and implementation on CAD standards, ensuring consistency and accuracy
• Manage and mentor all grades of CAD technicians
• Support CAD software and hardware management licensing, performance and compatibility
• Manage vendor and partner s CAD management relationships
• Support and develop the CAD structure and activities of the business.
• Support and promote innovation and technology
• Working collaboratively within a team environment.

About you...

• A relevant degree qualification or have completed a learning agreement/apprenticeship and obtained a relevant technical qualification (HNC, HND etc.).
• A basic understanding of the design of water/wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure works.
• Have a good understanding of BIM on a project and be able to lead on its implementation.
• Computer literate and conversant with the MS Office suite, Sharepoint and with knowledge of Autodesk Construction Cloud ACC, AutoCAD, Autodesk Bridge, Revit, Civils 3D, Datum 360 for asset management and or other related engineering packages
• Be familiar with water and wastewater, infrastructure and non-infrastructure design techniques and solutions.
• Have a basic knowledge of our clients and the water market in general.
• Understand the importance of delivering to programme and notifying the design lead when issues that affect delivery arise.
• Understand and use the relevant Quality Management System processes and procedures throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM Regulations.
• Strong written and oral communication and organisational skills and to produce reports in clear concise English.
• Proven ability to work within a team environment with a dedicated approach to meet project deadlines.
• Client focused approach to service delivery.
• Self-motivated with the drive to achieve continuous improvement targets.
