Job summary

Modine Manufacturing Company in Leeds is seeking a CAD Design Engineer to join the Product Development team. You will work with mechanical, electrical, controls, manufacturing and quality engineers to design the structural framework and packaging of new HVAC products from concept through to production.

You will produce 3D models, layout drawings and sheet metal manufacturing drawings, ensuring designs meet APQP/SOM guidelines and deadlines.

Qualifications

• Experience with MS Word and Excel is essential.
• Degree or HNC in Engineering or Science preferred.
• Sheet metal manufacturing experience is advantageous.
• Mechanical engineering knowledge is beneficial.
• Ability to use initiative and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Develop new product designs in line with APQP and SOM guidelines from concept to production.
• Produce drawings, 3D models, layouts and pipe-work designs.
• Create sheet metal manufacturing drawings for parts and assemblies.
• Work to deadlines and cost targets with manufacturing in mind.

Position Description

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a CAD Design Engineer to work in the Product Development department reporting to a Lead Mechanical Engineer. It involves working closely with a team of mechanical, electrical, controls, manufacturing and quality engineers to design and develop the structural framework and packaging of new standard HVAC products from concept through to production manufacture whilst maintaining the existing portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

The role consists of working as part of a team to develop new product design projects in accordance with APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and relevant SOM guidelines from concept through to full product launch.

• Producing drawings adhering to company, departmental and industry standards
• Creating 3D models, layout drawings and designing pipe-work
• Creating sheet metal manufacturing drawings of piece parts and assembly drawings
• Working to deadlines and cost requirements
• Designing products with manufacturing and assembly in mind, allowing labour targets to be met
• Structuring Bills of Material
• Sourcing appropriate furnishings and casework fittings

Required Education & Qualifications

Experience of MS Word and Excel are essential

• HNC or Degree qualified in an Engineering or Science based subject
• Sheet metal manufacturing experience preferred
• Mechanical engineering knowledge would be an advantage
• Have an ability to use their own initiative
• Able to communicate effectively at all levels

Ideally experience of the following software:

• Solid Edge ST9 and later
• AutoCAD 2D
• SAP

Although a high base level of CAD knowledge is expected, training will be provided for the right applicant to develop the skills and knowledge required for the position.
