Job summary

Adepto Technical Recruitment Ltd is seeking a skilled Controls & Instrumentation Technician for a Manchester-based contract role (minimum 6 months) on an Upper Tier COMAH site. The role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving control and instrumentation systems to keep plant operations safe and compliant.

You will work within a small engineering team, handling day-to-day maintenance and longer-term improvement projects, including fault-finding on PLCs and DCS, and calibrations

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent.
• CompEx Ex01–Ex06 is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out planned preventative and breakdown maintenance on instrumentation and control systems in a chemical manufacturing environment.
• Diagnosing faults and carrying out corrective repairs to minimise downtime.
• Working in compliance with site health, safety and environmental standards, including the Permit to Work system.
• Managing work orders, preventive maintenance activities, and time recording through the Engineering Management System.
• Supporting wider engineering activities across the site as required.
• Fault-finding on PLCs and DCS.
• Maintenance across field instrumentation (level, temp, flow, pressure).
• Instrument calibrations (Analyser exposure - desirable).

C&I Technician / Chemicals / Manchester / Contract - minimum 6 months / £negotiable / Inside IR35

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Controls & Instrumentation (C&I) Technician to join an Upper Tier COMAH site. This is a key role supporting the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of high-hazard process plant equipment.

You will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving, control and instrumentation systems, playing a vital part in keeping the site running efficiently and safely. Working within a small, close-knit engineering team, you’ll contribute to both day-to-day maintenance and longer-term improvement projects (Installations).

Key Responsibilities

• Carrying out planned preventative and breakdown maintenance on instrumentation and control systems within a chemical manufacturing environment
• Diagnosing faults and carrying out corrective repairs to minimise downtime
• Working in full compliance with site health, safety, and environmental standards, including the Permit to Work system
