Job summary

Building Careers UK is recruiting a Buyer for a Warrington-based civil engineering contractor. You will procure groundworks materials, aggregates, concrete, drainage products and other civil engineering supplies to support multiple projects.

Join a growing team, negotiate terms with suppliers, manage relationships, raise purchase orders and help ensure on-time deliveries while driving cost savings and compliance with company procedures.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Buyer in the construction industry.
• Experience procuring groundworks materials such as aggregates, concrete, drainage or civil engineering supplies.
• Strong knowledge of construction procurement and supply chain management.
• Excellent negotiation and supplier management skills.
• Good commercial awareness and cost control experience.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

• Procure groundworks materials, aggregates, concrete, drainage products and civils supplies.
• Source and negotiate the best commercial terms with suppliers and manufacturers.
• Manage supplier relationships and develop new supply chain opportunities.
• Raise and process purchase orders in line with project requirements.
• Collaborate with Commercial, Estimating and Operational teams to ensure timely materials deliveries.
• Monitor supplier performance, pricing and lead times.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and drive value across procurement.
• Maintain procurement records and ensure compliance with procedures.
• Support project teams to meet programme requirements.

Our client is a well-established civil engineering and groundworks contractor operating throughout the North West, delivering high-quality infrastructure and groundwork solutions for leading house builders, developers, local authorities, and commercial clients. Their expertise spans bulk earthworks, drainage, roads and sewers, reinforced concrete, foundations, external works, and hard landscaping, supported by a reliable supply chain and modern fleet of plant and equipment.

With a strong reputation for quality, reliability, and delivering projects safely and efficiently, the business continues to grow and is now looking to strengthen its commercial team with the appointment of an experienced Buyer based in Warrington.

The Role

As Buyer, you will be responsible for:

• Procuring groundworks materials, aggregates, concrete, drainage products, and civil engineering supplies
• Sourcing and negotiating the best commercial terms with suppliers and manufacturers
• Managing supplier relationships and developing new supply chain opportunities
• Raising and processing purchase orders in line with project requirements
• Working closely with Commercial, Estimating, and Operational teams to ensure timely material deliveries
• Monitoring supplier performance, pricing, and lead times
• Identifying cost-saving opportunities and driving value across the procurement function
• Maintaining accurate procurement records and ensuring compliance with company procedures
• Supporting project teams to ensure materials are available to meet programme requirements

The Ideal Candidate

The successful Buyer will have:

• Previous experience as a Buyer within the construction industry
• Experience procuring groundworks, aggregates, concrete, drainage, or civil engineering materials
• Strong knowledge of construction procurement and supply chain management
• Excellent negotiation and supplier management skills
• Good commercial awareness and cost control experience
• Strong organisational and communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and procurement systems
• A proactive and commercially focused approach
• Full UK Driving Licence
