Construction Buyer/Assistant Buyer

Piccadilly Construction, our in-house Construction Management Team, is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Buyer/Assistant Buyer to assist with purchasing and procurement activities related to our construction and maintenance projects.

Responsibilities

1. Negotiate optimal supply chain arrangements with key materials suppliers.
2. Develop long-term strategic relationships with suppliers to maximize economies of scale.
3. Schedule and place material and plant orders, optimizing for cost and quality.
4. Review Architects/Engineers drawings for discrepancies and compliance with material specifications, resolving queries with relevant teams.
5. Produce material cost schedules and budgets for new projects, monitoring costs to stay within budgets.
6. Create schedules for material enquiries, obtain quotations, and assess supplier proposals for accuracy.
7. Report and project material cost increases as they occur.
8. Resolve invoice queries with the accounts team.
9. Conduct on-site material checks and produce reports as needed.
10. Visit sites regularly to ensure supply and material issues are addressed.
11. Negotiate with suppliers and raise orders for various needs, including property maintenance, sales, and marketing, where strategic procurement can add value.
12. Maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders, including contractors, suppliers, in-house teams, consultants, and advisors, to ensure successful project delivery.
13. Perform other duties as required by the employer.

About You

• Demonstrable understanding of construction industry procurement processes.
• Knowledge of effective buying functions within the construction sector.
• Understanding of the materials supply chain.
• Skills:
• A proactive, positive attitude with a willingness to challenge norms; commercially minded and able to work efficiently.
• Excellent financial and numerical skills, including budgeting and cash flow management.
• Strong planning and prioritization skills.
• Ability to control and manage costs effectively.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in buying within a construction business.
