Job summary

EPC is seeking a Shift Engineer in Newport area to provide maintenance across machinery, plant and facilities. You will resolve breakdowns and deliver planned maintenance to support production.

The role focuses on improving machinery, hygiene, quality and performance while leading Shift Managers to meet targets. On-site role with collaboration across departments and senior management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide an efficient, cost effective and profitable manufacturing service in the Process factory.
  • Ensure organised and planned production, delivering finished product of the required quality and volume to satisfy customers.
  • Ensure operating systems comply with HACCP, the Food Safety Act and customer specifications.
  • Comply with Health and Safety at Work Act and internal procedures.
  • Control production labour costs, plan HR requirements, monitor turnover and absence, and ensure adequate skill levels to meet production needs.
  • Control plant and equipment maintenance to meet production availability targets.
  • Monitor productivity, waste and yield, establish KPIs, and seek efficiency improvements to meet targets.
  • Direct, manage and train Shift Managers to improve overall factory performance.
  • Ensure employment practices comply with relevant legislation and EPC policies.
  • Collaborate with development teams to improve product quality, scope and profitability through new techniques, equipment or packaging.
  • Maintain effective communication with Directors, Senior Managers and subordinates.
  • Foster links with non-production departments to keep all areas informed of production issues.
  • Interact professionally with customers, visitors, staff, colleagues and suppliers.
  • Handle data with confidentiality and perform ad hoc duties as requested.
  • Validate weekly plans and sign-offs.
  • Supervise and train production teams, ensuring SSOW, core skills and refresher training are documented.
  • Ensure compliance with EPC/HR policies in the production area including returns-to-work, appraisals, disciplinaries and investigations.
  • Maintain standards of timekeeping, attendance and staff breaks.
  • Communicate effectively with staff via daily team briefs.
  • Coordinate with Shift Managers to align labour with production plans and scheduled holidays.
  • Ensure the team is trained and competent to complete shift duties, highlighting training gaps.

The role of the Shift Engineer provides an effective maintenance service to ensure that all machinery, plant, equipment, site structures, car parks, utilities and landscapes are, at all times, in good working order and of a high standard of repair. You will support production by resolving breakdowns and delivering planned maintenance. You will also drive improvement across the site in terms of machinery, hygiene, quality, and performance.

Responsibilities:

· To provide an efficient, cost effective and profitable manufacturing service in the Process factory

· To ensure organised and planned production, which consistently provides finished product of the required quality and volume to ensure complete customer satisfaction.

· To ensure all operating systems are in accordance with HACCP, the Food Safety Act and all customers’ specifications.

· To ensure that all operating systems are in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and all relevant internal procedures.

· To effectively control all production labour costs, to plan for all human resource requirements and changes, to monitor labour turnover and absence levels and ensure adequate levels of skill and numbers to meet production requirements.

· To effectively control all plant and equipment, its maintenance and repair to ensure availability to meet production requirements at all times.

· To monitor and analyse productivity, waste and yield figures, establish KPIs and manage the business to budget requirements, and to seek efficiencies to improve on budgeted targets.

· To direct, manage and train all Shift Managers, monitoring, developing and improving their individual and their factory’s overall performance.

· To ensure that all employment practices are carried out in accordance with relevant employment legislation and internal procedures.

· In conjunction with the development team seek to improve the quality, scope and profitability of the product portfolio by identifying and investigating alternative production techniques, procedures, machinery, equipment and packaging use.

· To ensure effective and regular communication with Directors, Senior Managers and Subordinates.

· To establish and maintain effective communication links with the non-production service departments and ensure that all areas of the business are up to date with all production issues.

· To deal professionally with customers, visitors, staff, colleagues and suppliers.

· To treat all data and information relevant to EPC in the strictest confidence.

· To carry out ad hoc duties as requested.

· Responsible for validating weekly plans and sign offs.

People Management

· Responsible for performance of team

· Responsible for ensuring that all staff within production area are adequately trained for their jobs including SSOW, core skills, and refresher training ensuring appropriate training records are completed.

· Responsible for ensuring compliance with EPC / HR policies within production area including Return to works, 1-2-1s, annual appraisals, disciplinaries and investigations.

· Responsible for raising and maintaining standards of timekeeping, attendance and staff breaks.

· Responsible for ensuring effective communication to all staff within the area, through daily team briefs.

· In conjunction with the Shift Managers, ensure that labour is managed in line with production plans, audit days and holidays are effectively scheduled to minimise disruption and over usage of agency staff.

· Ensure the team is trained and competent to complete the duties required on shift – set out training and development plans highlighting gaps .
