Job summary

Wokingham Borough Council is seeking a proactive Public Health Business Support Officer to join the Public Health Team on a permanent basis. The role offers a flexible 30 hours per week option or full-time arrangement with hybrid working in and out of the office.

You will provide essential administrative support, coordinating meetings, boards, and events, while managing documents, FOI requests, and recruitment administration to improve health outcomes across the borough.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive business and administrative support across Public Health functions, including diary management, coordinating meetings, steering groups, events and, preparing papers and ensuring actions are recorded and followed up.
  • Draft, coordinate and manage high-quality communications and documentation, including briefing papers, presentations, reports, shared inbox correspondence and responses to queries, escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Support governance processes, including administrative, financial and operational processes, including raising requests for goods and services, processing invoices, maintaining accurate records, supporting FOI and recruitment administration, and contributing to effective document management and digital workflows.

We have an excellent opportunity for a public health Business Support Officer to join our proactive Public Health Team at Wokingham Borough Council on a permanent, part-time (30 hours per week) or full time basis.


This is a varied and important administrative role supporting the delivery of public health priorities that improve the health and wellbeing of residents and help reduce health inequalities across the borough.


As the Business Support Officer, you will provide comprehensive business and administrative support across the Public Health function, helping to coordinate meetings, boards, steering groups, events, and training sessions. This will include preparing agendas and papers, arranging attendance, recording actions, supporting correspondence and documentation, monitoring shared inboxes, and helping ensure key processes are delivered accurately and on time.


The role will also support a range of operational, governance and financial processes, including raising requests for goods and services, processing invoices, maintaining accurate records, supporting Freedom of Information requests and recruitment administration, and contributing to effective document management and digital workflows.


We are looking for someone who is organised, flexible and confident working in a busy environment, with strong communication skills and the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines. The role is offered on a hybrid working basis which will involve being in the office and some home working.
