Job summary

Kent County Council is inviting applications for a Business Administrator Apprentice to join the Children's Allowance Review Business Support team in Ashford. You will support front-line teams with professional administrative duties, working alongside Business Support Officers and the Business Support Lead.

The role includes completing an apprenticeship with NVQ in Business Administration, gaining IT and organisation expertise, and contributing to a busy team from Monday to Friday,

Qualifications

  • GCSE English at least 4 or above.
  • GCSE Maths at least 4 or above.
  • GCSEs and foundational qualifications relevant to administration.

Responsibilities

  • Produce documents and presentations using software, ensuring accuracy and error-free output.
  • Serve as a point of contact for internal staff, partners and the public, handling queries promptly and courteously.

Introduction

We are looking for a Business Administrator Apprentice to join our Children's Allowance ReviewBusiness Support team in Ashford. You will work with our team of Business Support Officers and our Business Support Lead and play a vital role in supporting front line teams through the provision of professional administrative support.

About the Employer

Kent County Council is a county council that governs most of the county of Kent in England. It is the upper tier of elected local government. Below are 12 district councils and around 300 town and parish councils. The county council has 81 elected councillors. The chief executive and chief officers are responsible for the day-to-day running of the council.

What You'll Do
  • To undertake the day to day administrative and business support functions of the team and the wider service including the monitoring of emails and telephone messages for team members.
  • Make best use of all available software to produce a wide range of documents and presentations to defined standards; checking and amending documentation to ensure it is free from errors.
  • To act as a point of contact to ensure that internal staff, partners and members of the public who contact the team are dealt with efficiently and consistently. This will include dealing with queries, assessing the nature of telephone calls, referring them to the appropriate person, and receiving visitors in a courteous, prompt and efficient manner.
  • To input and maintain accurate electronic records on relevant data recording systems, including information management systems, databases, and electronic filing systems.
  • Undertake administrative tasks, such as photocopying, processing mail, maintain filing systems, maintaining office equipment, and updating information.
  • Undertake the apprenticeship training including NVQ in Business Administration and attend any relevant training when the opportunity arises to further develop employability skills.
Training Outcome

Upon completion of your apprenticeship, you will have the chance to move into a permanent role as a Business Support Officer within the team, at KSC pay grade on the Kent Scheme, with the starting salary of£26,956. While there is an opportunity for a permanent position, securing the role is contingent upon successfully passing the interview, assessment, and meeting the role criteria. This means that we will keep the post open for you, but you must complete all required steps to secure the position.
