Job description

The Business Product Owner is responsible for ensuring that the firm's managed pay and people services and supporting technology solutions meet the needs of the business, clients and internal delivery teams. Acting as the voice of the business, the role translates operational, client service, compliance and commercial requirements into clear priorities for the product and delivery teams. The Business Product Owner will work closely with the Technical Product Owner, internal development teams, pay and people operations, client-facing teams and other stakeholders to ensure that development activity delivers practical, high-value outcomes. The role is accountable for making sure the business gets what it needs from delivery teams, while balancing priorities, managing expectations and supporting continuous improvement. You will make an impact by:

  • Own the strategic vision, priorities and roadmap for managed payroll products, systems and process improvements, ensuring delivery aligns with business objectives, client needs and operational requirements.
  • Act as the primary business representative for product development, partnering closely with the Technical Product Owner and key stakeholders to define, prioritise and communicate business requirements, user stories and backlog items.
  • Lead business input into agile delivery activities, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews and testing, ensuring solutions meet agreed requirements, acceptance criteria and business outcomes.
  • Drive prioritisation and decision-making based on business value, client impact, regulatory obligations, operational efficiency, risk mitigation and delivery capacity, while maintaining high standards of quality, compliance and governance.
  • Engage stakeholders and end users to gather feedback, manage expectations, support change adoption and measure the value of delivered improvements through service, compliance, user and client outcome metrics.

Are you someone who thrives on variety, loves learning new things, and enjoys connecting with people? If you can spot inefficiencies in everyday life and are passionate about making improvements, this role is perfect for you!

We value diverse experiences and perspectives. Here's what we're looking for in our ideal candidate:
  • Experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, Business Analyst, Service Owner or similar role within a technology-enabled environment, ideally with exposure to payroll or professional services.
  • Strong ability to translate complex business needs into clear requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria and prioritised product outcomes.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the confidence to engage effectively with both business and technical audiences.
  • Good understanding of agile delivery methodologies, including backlog management, sprint planning, refinement and iterative delivery.
  • Commercially minded and analytical, with the ability to prioritise based on value, risk and client impact while ensuring compliance, data protection and operational excellence.
