Job summary

North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a Business Intelligence Developer to design, develop and support the Trust's BI platform, delivering accurate information for operational management and strategic planning.

You will work with the Performance Team using SQL Server, SSIS, Power BI and Report Builder to create data warehouses, dashboards and reports, promoting data quality, automation and self-service analytics across clinical and corporate services.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent with advanced MS SQL, SQL Server, SSRS, Power BI and MS Excel.
  • Substantial experience developing ETL processes, Data Warehouses and SSRS reports with Microsoft BI technologies (SSIS, SSAS, SQL, SSRS, VS2013).
  • Experience designing, coding, integrated dashboard scope, design and development.
  • Experience analysing and presenting data/findings to varied audiences.
  • Demonstrable experience of data transformation and loading of transformed data.
  • Knowledge of Data Protection legislation, data protection and Protection Toolkit

Responsibilities

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a Business Intelligence Developer, you will play a key role in the development, enhancement and support of the Trust's Business Intelligence platform, helping to deliver high-quality information that supports operational management, strategic planning and improvements in patient care.

Working within the Performance Team, you will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining robust Business Intelligence solutions using Microsoft technologies including SQL Server, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Power BI and Microsoft Report Builder. You will develop data warehouses, ETL processes, dimensional data models, databases, reports and interactive dashboards that provide accurate, timely and accessible information to a wide range of users across the Trust.

You will work closely with Digital and Information colleagues to ensure that reporting solutions are built on reliable and up-to-date datasets, supporting the ongoing development of the Trust's data warehouse and Business Intelligence environment. You will identify opportunities to automate reporting processes, improve data quality and enable self-service reporting, ensuring that solutions are scalable, efficient and aligned with business priorities.

The role requires strong technical expertise in database development, SQL programming and Business Intelligence technologies, together with the ability to analyse complex information requirements and translate them into practical reporting solutions. You will contribute to the design, implementation and testing of new systems and enhancements, ensuring all developments are fully documented, appropriately secured and subject to rigorous quality assurance before release.

Working collaboratively with stakeholders across clinical, operational and corporate services, you will provide technical advice and support, helping users to maximise the value of Business Intelligence products. You will contribute to Trust-wide projects involving data integration, information systems and analytics, while maintaining technical documentation to support future development, maintenance and knowledge sharing.

You will ensure that all information products comply with information governance standards, data protection legislation and Trust policies, maintaining the highest standards of data security and confidentiality. You will also contribute to the continuous improvement of Business Intelligence services by keeping up to date with emerging technologies, promoting best practice and sharing knowledge with colleagues through training and support where appropriate.

The successful candidate will be an analytical and proactive problem solver with excellent communication skills, capable of managing a varied workload and working independently while building effective relationships with colleagues, system suppliers and other stakeholders across the organisation.

  • Development skills working with BI analytics tools, such as MS Power BI, SSRS, Qlikview, Tableau.
  • Sound in depth knowledge of database design principles, Microsoft BI stack technologies is essential.
  • Experienced in writing SQL.
  • Management and development of an MS SharePoint environment.
  • Testing and implementation of efficient and robust reports and database schemas.
  • Demonstrable experience of data transformation and loading of transformed data.
  • Knowledge of Data Protection legislation, Data Security and Protection Toolkit
Desirable criteria
  • Familiarity with benchmarking & comparative analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with R and Python
