Business Development Manager – Commercial Solar PV

Industry Sector: Renewables, Solar Energy, Solar PV, Photovoltaics, Solar Panels, Solar Lighting, Renewable Energy, M&E Contractors, Electrical Installers, Renewable Installers, Main Contractors, Business Owners, Building Owners, DNO (District Network Operators), PDR (Permitted Development Rights), Structural Surveys

Area to be covered: Based with access to East Midlands

Remuneration: £50,000 - £65,000 + £20,000 uncapped
Commission Benefits: £600 Car Allowance & company benefits

The role of the Business Development Manager – Commercial Solar PV will involve:

  1. Field sales position selling the full turn-key installation of commercial solar.
  2. 60% of your time selling into and managing relationships with business owners/building owner end users.
  3. 40% of your time with M&E contractors and main contractors.
  4. Our client is shifting focus from agricultural end users to the commercial and industrial sectors.
  5. Typical projects include manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, or anywhere that consumes a lot of electricity and has a large roof.
  6. Typical project sizes range from £150,000 to £1 million.
  7. Projects can vary in length from 3 months for a 100kW project, up to 6 months for larger projects.
  8. Work schedule includes approximately 2 days per week working from home, 2 days visiting customers (about 3-4 visits per week), and 1 day in the East Midlands office.
  9. Some leads are provided, but the main focus is on new business development.
  10. Revenue target is approximately £1.5m-£2m.

The ideal applicant will have:

  1. Field sales experience in the commercial solar market (seasoned solar PV sales professional).
  2. Experience as a new business hunter.
  3. Some design capability, including defining concepts with MDs.
  4. Technical experience and knowledge of DNO, PDR, and Structural Surveys.
  5. Excellent negotiation skills.
  6. Experience selling into M&E contractors and main contractors is advantageous.
  7. Proactive, self-motivated, and career-oriented.
  8. IT literacy, especially Microsoft Office.
