Job summary

SGB in Milton Keynes is seeking a Business Controller on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract (maternity cover) with hybrid working. The role oversees the full business control function for Bus, Coach, and Power Solutions, including month-end reporting and financial oversight.

You will tailor margin analyses, monitor balances, and support pricing for tenders, while collaborating closely with the Heads and Sales teams to deliver insight-driven decisions.

• CIMA/ACCA qualification or finalist status.
• Experience in finance, accounts, business support or analytics.
• Strong organisational and reporting skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee full business control for Bus, Coach and Power Solutions with financial oversight.
• Lead month-end management accounts and timely financial reporting.
• Review internal controls and ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations to ensure integrity.
• Prepare margin analyses to support profitability reviews.
• Analyse budgets vs projections and explain variances.
• Monitor order intake, stock levels and order book for operations.
• Collaborate with Head of Bus, Coach and Power Solutions on insights.
• Support pricing analysis for tenders with Pricing and Fleet teams; liaise with auditors.

In this role you will:

• Responsible for the full Business Control function for Bus, Coach, and Power Solutions, providing financial oversight and strategic insight.
• Full responsibility of the preparation of month-end management accounts, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Review and assess financial control provisions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Perform complete balance sheet reconciliations to maintain financial integrity and transparency.
• Prepare accurate margin analyses to support profitability reviews and performance evaluation.
• Analyse and compare budgets against projections, identifying any variances.
• Overview of daily reports on order intake, stock levels, and the order book to inform operational decisions to ensure accuracy.
• Collaborate closely with the Head of Bus, Coach, and Power Solutions, delivering key financial insights to drive informed business decisions.
• Primary contact together with Technical Sales Manager on all pricing analysis for tender submissions working closely with the Fleet Manager.
• Collaborate closely with the Administration Coordinator and the Sales Administration Team on day to day operations.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for external audits, ensuring all required documentation and information is readily available.

About you:

Essential

• CIMA/ACCA Qualified or Finalist – Ideally recently qualified or at the final stage of qualification
• Previous experience in a finance, accounts, business support, or analytical role.
• Strong organisational skills.
• Good understanding of financial reporting and reconciliation processes.
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Desirable

• Experience within the automotive, transport, fleet, or commercial vehicle sector.
• Knowledge of Autoline
• Experience using Power BI to create reports, dashboards, and visualisations
• Experience supporting sales finance or commercial finance functions.
