Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is seeking a Business Analyst to support the planning, specification, development and delivery of digital transformation projects across NHSGGC and partner organisations. You will work with clinical, operational and technical stakeholders to implement innovative digital solutions that improve patient care and service delivery.

The role focuses on business analysis, requirements gathering, process mapping and benefits realisation within a dynamic NHS digital

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent experience in NHS/public sector preferred.
  • Experience in specification, development and implementation of information systems.
  • Experience with requirements gathering, business process mapping and service redesign.
  • Experience delivering digital transformation projects and programmes.
  • Knowledge of PRINCE2 and/or Agile project management.
  • Strong analytical, organisational and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and work with project sponsors, managers, clinicians and partners to specify, develop and deliver digital projects.
  • Gather and document business requirements, run workshops and map business processes.
  • Support system appraisal, testing activities and produce project documentation and reports.
  • Plan and coordinate multiple interdependent projects, monitor progress and manage risks.
  • Support change management and benefits realisation to align with organisational objectives.

Job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join NHSGGC's Digital Services Strategy, Programmes & Innovation Electronic Patient Record (EPR) Team. The postholder will support the planning, specification, development and delivery of digital transformation projects across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and partner organisations. Working closely with clinical, operational and technical stakeholders, the role will contribute to the implementation of innovative digital solutions that improve patient care, enhance service delivery and support NHSGGC's ambitious Digital Strategy, including digital nursing documentation, citizen access services and the implementation of new community systems. The postholder will provide business analysis and project management expertise, ensuring projects deliver measurable benefits, align with organisational and national priorities, and support the ongoing modernisation of health and social care services.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
  • Permanent - 36hrs
  • Smithhills Street, Paisley
  • Monday to Friday (9am - 5pm)
Key responsibilities:

The postholder will advise and work closely with project sponsors, senior managers, clinicians and partner organisations to specify, develop and deliver complex digital and information management projects across NHSGGC. Responsibilities include gathering and documenting business requirements, facilitating workshops, conducting business process mapping and redesign, supporting system appraisal and testing activities, and producing project documentation and reports. The role will also involve planning and coordinating multiple interdependent projects, monitoring progress, managing risks and dependencies, supporting change management and benefits realisation activities, and ensuring solutions align with organisational objectives and Scottish Government priorities. The successful candidate will contribute to the development and implementation of innovative clinical and non‑clinical digital solutions, helping to improve patient care, operational efficiency and service transformation across health and social care.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
Essential
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant experience, preferably within the NHS, healthcare or public sector.
  • Significant practical experience in the specification, development and implementation of information systems.
  • Experience of business analysis techniques, including requirements gathering, business process mapping and service redesign.
  • Experience supporting the delivery of digital transformation projects and programmes.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies, such as PRINCE2 and/or Agile approaches.
  • Strong analytical, organisational and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines within a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative while contributing effectively as part of a wider team.
Desirable
  • Experience working with clinical information systems or electronic patient record systems.
  • Knowledge of healthcare service delivery and NHS operational environments.
  • Understanding of database concepts and data structures.
  • Knowledge of network architecture and technical infrastructure.
  • Experience working with SQL databases and related technologies.
  • Experience supporting large‑scale organisational change and digital transformation programmes.
  • Awareness of current and emerging digital healthcare technologies, including AI‑enabled solutions.
