Job description

‘Grow in Grace’

Shape the future of one of England’s leading prep schools.

Founded in 1722, The Blue Coat School (BCS), Birmingham, is one of the UK’s largest and most prestigious stand-alone prep schools. Renowned for nurturing curious, adventurous, and creative learners aged 3–11, BCS combines heritage with ambition in a diverse community.

The Headmaster, Noel Neeson, and Governors, led by the Chair, Karan Gilmore, seek a dynamic Bursar and Clerk to Governors to join the Senior Executive Team. This is a pivotal role driving strategic growth, operational excellence, and supporting BCS’s continued success as Birmingham’s first-choice prep school.

BCS has flourished in recent years, expanding both in numbers and facilities through significant capital projects. The next Bursar and Clerk to Governors will sustain this momentum, leading finance, estates, operations, human resources, IT, transport, compliance, and catering, while being a visible and approachable presence in the heart of this vibrant, family-centred community.

We are seeking applications from experienced candidates with proven financial acumen, resource planning expertise, and a track record of capital project delivery. If you can inspire teams, uphold high standards, and embody our values of respect, communication, and integrity, we want to hear from you.

This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact at a thriving, ambitious school.
