Job summary

Hyde Group is seeking an experienced Building Surveyor to cover London and Kent. You will manage cases from inspection to works completion, deliver technical direction and ensure regulatory compliance, working closely with residents, legal partners and internal teams. The role requires a full UK driving licence and a DBS check, with a salary of £45,400–£56,000 plus paid business mileage. This is a field-based role with real impact on social housing.

Building Surveyor

Mobile across London and Kent

Are you an experienced Building Surveyor who wants to make a real difference in social housing?

As a Building Surveyor, you'll manage cases from initial inspection through to the completion of works. You'll provide clear technical direction, ensure compliance with legal and contractual standards, and work closely with customers and legal partners to achieve fair, timely resolutions. You'll balance technical excellence with strong customer communication, ensuring customers feel supported and informed throughout the process.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce detailed technical reports, schedules of works, specifications, measurements, and costings
• Carry out property inspections and surveys, ensuring works meet quality and compliance standards
• Monitor and supervise contractors to ensure works are delivered safely, on time, and to the required standard
• Work collaboratively with residents, legal representatives, expert witnesses, and internal teams to manage risk and resolve cases effectively
• Identify learning and service improvement opportunities to prevent repeat issues

About You

We're looking for someone who understands the realities of social housing and is motivated by improving homes for customers. Looking for strong experience in surveying, specifying, and supervising building works, including repairs, refurbishments, adaptations, and cyclical programmes with particular emphasis on roofing works, dealing with all varieties of roof construction and providing cost-effective, long-term solutions.

• Experience in a surveying role within social housing
• Strong knowledge of building defects, diagnosis, and remedial solutions
• Excellent communication skills with the confidence to engage residents, contractors, and legal stakeholders
• The ability to prepare clear technical reports and negotiate effectively
• A proactive, organised, and solutions-focused approach
• Full UK driving licence (essential due to mobile nature of the role)
• Relevant qualifications e.g. RICS (Royal Chartered Institute of Surveyors)
