Job summary

Boots Nottingham is seeking a Building Services Manager to lead critical engineering functions across the Boots estate, ensuring safe, efficient and welcoming facilities for colleagues and customers. You will shape strategy, manage a team of internal specialists, and collaborate with project managers and external consultants on major property projects.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in Building Services or related discipline.
  • Strong experience in building services within a retail, property, construction or similar operational environment.
  • Experience leading building services activities across multiple projects or programmes at the same time.
  • Experience managing consultants, contractors and specialist suppliers, including performance and quality standards.
  • Knowledge of UK Building Regulations, engineering standards, health and safety requirements and compliance processes.
  • Experience developing technical standards, specifications or governance processes for building services and engineering works.
  • Proven people management experience, including setting objectives, supporting development and managing performance.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise work across multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Driving innovation, sustainability and continuous improvement in engineering solutions and ways of working.
  • Providing leadership, coaching and development support to build capability and performance within the team.

What you’ll be doing

As Building Services Manager, you’ll lead the technical expertise that supports the delivery of projects across the Boots estate. Reporting to the Head of Delivery Development and managing the Architectural Design & Specifications Manager & Design Standards & Systems Manager, you’ll work closely with project managers, contractors, external consultants to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.

This is a highly visible role with the opportunity to influence major investment projects, shape architectural and building services standards and make a lasting impact across one of the UK’s best-known retail and healthcare estates.

Key responsibilities

What you’ll need to have (our must-haves)
  • A degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Building Services, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong experience in building services within a retail, property, construction or similar operational environment.
  • Experience leading building services activities across multiple projects or programmes at the same time.
  • Experience managing consultants, contractors and specialist suppliers, including performance and quality standards.
  • Knowledge of UK Building Regulations, engineering standards, health and safety requirements and compliance processes.
  • Experience developing technical standards, specifications or governance processes for building services and engineering works.
  • Proven people management experience, including setting objectives, supporting development and managing performance.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise work across multiple projects and deadlines.
It would be great if you also have
  • Membership of, or working towards membership of, a recognised professional body such as CIBSE, IMechE or IET.
  • Experience working in a large retail or multi-site property environment.
  • Experience supporting sustainability, energy efficiency or carbon reduction initiatives within property projects.
  • Experience introducing improvements to processes, standards or ways of working. Knowledge of contractor onboarding, competency assessment and supply chain performance management.
  • Experience working with project, procurement and commercial teams to support successful project delivery.
  • An interest in new technologies and engineering solutions that improve building performance and efficiency.
