Job summary

English Heritage, based in Newcastle upon Tyne, seeks a Building Services Manager (North Region) on a maternity cover, 36 hours/week. The role spans Lancashire, Cumbria, County Durham and Northumberland, blending conservation maintenance with project delivery and regional contract oversight.

Flexible/hybrid pattern with frequent site travel is offered. You will champion building services, oversee M&E assets, maintain safety/compliance, and coordinate with Estate Managers to prioritise works

Qualifications

Minimum HNC/HND in mechanical and/or electrical engineering or equivalent.
Experience of client-side administration of M&E maintenance contracts with budgets and KPIs.
Experience delivering small to medium M&E capital projects (e.g., boiler or fire alarm replacement).
Ability to prepare schedules of work and simple drawings/diagrams.
Knowledge of current legislation covering mechanical/electrical systems, fire safety, gas safety and related regulations.

Responsibilities

Manage mechanical and electrical assets across historic properties and modern visitor facilities.
Lead maintenance and identify priorities using condition information.
Coordinate with Estate Managers and site teams across the North portfolio.
Ensure asset information, maintenance schedules and statutory certification are recorded in CAFM.
Manage and audit quality of on-site works and contractor performance.
