Engineering provides the infrastructure of the railway. We are concerned about the long–term operation, maintenance, renewal, and enhancement of Engineering Assets. We support our Operations, Economic and Safety colleagues in assuring a safe, economic, and reliable railway.

Position Overview

The post holder will sit in the Railway Planning and Performance (RPP) Directorate working in the Civil Engineering team.

Role Summary

We are recruiting a Building Services Engineer (M&E) to provide specialist expertise. This role will collaborate closely with civil engineers and other teams across ORR, including safety inspectors, economists, and railway operations.

Main Responsibilities

• Provide specialist technical advice across all ORR directorates.
• Identify risks and issues, and review Network Rail with recommendations for improvements.
• Contribute to planning for the next periodic review, including developing monitoring regimes.
• Review strategies and policies of infrastructure and train operating companies.
• Monitor Network Rail's regulated outputs, including strategic plans and annual returns.
• Lead engagement and chair liaison meetings.
• Manage external consultants and develop proposals for audits.
• Represent ORR in external groups and research projects, coordinating with the wider team.

Mandatory Qualifications

Degree in Engineering or Science.

Mandatory Memberships

Chartered or working towards Chartered Membership of an engineering or equivalent institution.
